The design of diesel locomotives ChME3 provides for operation on a system of two units with the possibility of equipping the diesel locomotive with a portable remote control for servicing by one person.

The diesel locomotive is equipped with a 6-cylinder, in-line Czechoslovakian diesel engine type K6S310DR with turbocharging with a total power of 993 kW (1350 hp) with a traction generator TD802 with a power of 885 kW, which form a power unit, the energy of which is used to obtain traction force. The power plant allows the diesel locomotive to develop maximum traction force in train mode up to 23 t/s and in shunting mode up to 28 t/s.

The control cabin has a basic configuration and is equipped with two control panels, a hand brake, a ventilation unit, a heating coil, floor heaters, a speedometer and safety devices.

At the request of the client, other retrofitting and modernization of the diesel locomotive can be carried out according to the technical specifications provided by you and the cost of these works agreed upon.

During 2023 – 2024 the diesel locomotive underwent a complete overhaul in accordance with the current instructions and rules for diesel locomotives of this series, namely:

complete overhaul of a diesel engine with the replacement of 90% of spare parts and components with new ones, including the connecting rod and piston group (crankshaft bearing shells, piston rings, cylinder liners, valves and valve guides, etc.), turbocharger, regulator speed, fuel equipment and more;
complete overhaul of the traction generator with replacement of armature bearings, repair of main and additional poles, grinding and refurbishment of the armature commutator, replacement of insulators, brush holders and brushes;
complete overhaul of traction motors TE006 and two machine units DT701/706 with repair of anchors, main and auxiliary poles, repair of commutators, repair of brush holders and their components;
complete overhaul of the brake compressor K2Lok-1;
complete overhaul of the chassis, namely repair of bogie frames, brake-lever transmission, brake cylinders, hydraulic vibration dampers, etc. with the replacement of all necessary spare parts and components;
full inspection of wheel sets with replacement of tires and inspection of axle box units of the 2nd volume in accordance with the requirements of instructions VND32.0.07-001-2001 and TsT-0165;
complete repair of auxiliary equipment: overhaul of the refrigerator shaft with replacement of water collectors and cooling sections, upper and side louvers of the refrigeration unit and their drives, hydromechanical gearbox, drive shafts with clutches of the main fan and hydromechanical gearbox, repair of cooling fans of the main and additional cooling circuits. Manufacturing of new expansion tanks;
complete repair of impact coupling devices in accordance with the requirements of Standard STP 04-105:2018
complete overhaul with replacement of insulation and internal lining of walls and ceilings, shells, baseboards and other decorative elements in the control cabin.
complete repair of brake and pneumatic equipment in accordance with the requirements of the TsT-0058 instruction;- external inspection and hydraulic testing of air tanks in accordance with the requirements of the instructions TsT-TsV-TsL-TsP-0050;
complete replacement of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical wiring, repair and partial replacement of electrical equipment with new ones, complete repair and restoration of the main and auxiliary control panels;
a complete set of new pipelines for water, oil, fuel and pneumatic systems were manufactured.

The diesel locomotive is equipped with a new battery type 56TN-150saU2 manufactured by the “Vladar” plant, Bulgaria.

In May 2023 specialists from NPP UKRTRANSAKAD LLC, Dnepr, carried out work to inspect the technical condition of the main load-bearing structures of the diesel locomotive (body frame and bogie frame) with the issuance of a technical solution to extend the service life of the diesel locomotive by 6 years (until 04.2029). All documentation for extending the service life of the diesel locomotive – “Agreement on the provision of services for monitoring the technical condition of the main load-bearing structures” and “Technical solution for extending the service life of the diesel locomotive UTA-15-23/s dated 05/09/2023.” Is in stock.

The diesel locomotive underwent commissioning, full rheostatic tests and running-in on the access roads of a specialized repair enterprise. Completely ready for use.

Work was carried out to completely paint the locomotive externally and internally using high-tech and expensive paints and varnishes from the German brand Lankwitzer Gmbh in accordance with the selected color palette and painting scheme.

A two-tone blue-blue exterior paint scheme was chosen using two-component enamels: RAL 5015 – sky blue as the main color and RAL 5012 blue as an additional color. The combination of sky blue and light blue colors of the main scheme of the locomotive is harmoniously complemented by white elements in RAL 9010 color in the form of narrow stripes – along the roof line turning into a triangle on the front part and along the hood floor line, as well as a wide stripe at the level of the lower flaps of the refrigeration shaft with exiting to the frontal part and a sharp zigzag upward on the side surface of the hood. The roof of the locomotive is painted metallic gray in RAL 7047 Telegray 4.

Separate elements of the external paint scheme are specially shaped signal strips on the front and rear of the locomotive, a strip on the fuel tank that is painted in traffic yellow RAL 1023, as well as track clearing devices at the front and rear that are painted in traffic red RAL 3020.

The basic painting scheme is complemented and harmonized by individual elements painted in white RAL 9010 – the axle box covers and the fuel tank. The crew part is painted in practical black RAL 9004 – signal black.

The main purpose of the diesel locomotive of this series is to perform shunting and removal work on the tracks of industrial enterprises with a gauge of 1520 mm.

The TGM6 series of diesel locomotives with the “D” index is the latest generation of this model, which was produced from 1991 to 2016.

The diesel locomotive is equipped with an 8-cylinder, V-shaped diesel engine type 7-6D49 (8ChN26/26) with gas turbine pressurization with a total power of 883 kW (1200 hp) and a hydraulic transmission UGP 1200/202M with one fluid coupling and two single-stage torque converters TP100M. This tandem diesel-hydraulic transmission allows the diesel locomotive to develop maximum traction force in train mode up to 14 t/s and in shunting mode up to 25 t/s.

The control cabin has a basic configuration and is equipped with two control panels, a hand brake, a ventilation unit, a heating air heater, floor heaters on the driver and assistant sides, a cabinet for installing safety devices and radio stations.

At the request of the client, the control cabin can be equipped with additional equipment: a speedometer, safety devices and automatic locomotive alarms, a radio station, a portable control panel, an engine room washbasin and more.

Other retrofitting and modernization of the diesel locomotive can also be carried out according to the technical specifications provided by the customer and the cost of these works has been agreed upon.

During 2023-2024, the diesel locomotive underwent a complete overhaul in accordance with the current instructions and rules for diesel locomotives of this series, namely:

complete overhaul of a diesel engine with the replacement of 90% of spare parts and components with new ones, including the connecting rod and piston group (crankshaft bearing shells, piston rings, cylinder liners, valves and valve guides, etc.), as well as installation of new components and assemblies, such as exhaust manifolds, turbocharger TK-23-S01, governor control and speed controller 10VRN100, shaft turning mechanism, electric starter PSU2M and others;
complete overhaul of the hydraulic transmission with the replacement of 90% of spare parts and components with new ones, including the installation of new components and assemblies, such as the feed pump and its shaft, movable coupling, sensors and valves, etc.;

complete overhaul of the PK5.25 brake compressor with grinding of the crankshaft, complete replacement of the connecting rod and piston group (liners, pistons, rings, connecting rods, etc.), replacement of cylinders, valves, cooling fan;
complete overhaul of electrical machines – auxiliary generator KG12.5; electric motors type P21 and P41 oil and fuel pumping pumps;
complete overhaul of the chassis, namely repair of bogie frames, brake-lever transmission, brake cylinders, hydraulic vibration dampers, etc. with the replacement of all necessary spare parts and components;
full inspection of wheel sets with turning of tires and inspection of axle box units of the 2nd volume in accordance with the requirements of instructions VND32.0.07-001-2001 and TsT-0165;
complete repair of auxiliary equipment: water-oil heat exchangers of diesel and hydraulic transmission, fuel heater, fine oil filter unit, main fan drive gearbox, main fan and refrigeration unit shutters and their drives, replacement of water collectors and sections of the refrigerator shaft, drives and couplings of mechanisms and assemblies. Making a new expansion tank;
complete repair of brake and pneumatic equipment in accordance with the requirements of instruction TsT-0058;
external inspection and hydraulic testing of air tanks in accordance with the requirements of the instructions TsT-TsV-TsL-TsP-0050;
replacement of electrical wiring, repair and partial replacement of electrical equipment with new ones, complete repair and restoration of the main and auxiliary control panels;
complete overhaul with replacement of insulation and internal lining of walls and ceilings, shells, baseboards and other decorative elements in the control cabin;
a complete set of new pipelines for the locomotive’s water, oil, fuel and pneumatic systems was manufactured.

The diesel locomotive is equipped with a new 64V TNS 450A battery produced by the Elhim Iskra JSC plant, Bulgaria.

In February 2024, specialists from the NDKTI UZ branch carried out work to inspect the technical condition of the main load-bearing structures of the diesel locomotive (body frame and bogie frames) with the issuance of a technical solution to extend the service life of the diesel locomotive by 11 years (until 02/01/2035). All documentation for extending the service life of a diesel locomotive – “Agreement on the provision of services for monitoring the technical condition of the main load-bearing structures” and “Technical solution for extending the service life of a diesel locomotive TR.NDKTI.2024.02.0286” is available.

When carrying out a major overhaul of the diesel locomotive, in order to improve its appearance and improve the working conditions of the servicing locomotive crew, it was modernized with an LED lighting system, the essence of which is to replace factory incandescent lamps with LED lamps in white and red buffer lamps, in floodlights, as well as replacing incandescent lamps in the engine compartment, control cabin and under body lighting with LED ones.

Robots were carried out to completely paint the diesel locomotive externally and internally using high-tech and expensive paints and varnishes from the German brand Lankwitzer Gmbh in accordance with the selected color palette and paint scheme.

The main target of the diesel locomotive of this series is a working with cargo warehouses with a total weight norm of 4,000-6,000 tons.

Diesel locomotives of the 2TE10 series with the index “U” are the last generation of this model, which had a number of structural changes and refinements, namely, modernized and improved electrical circuits, modernized diesel 10D100M with a number of improvements in the main parameters of operation, modernized refrigerating chamber, more successful location of power and auxiliary equipment, practically unified bodies and trolleys with diesel locomotives of the 2ТЕ116 series and others.

All the main equipment is located in a wagon-type body with the main frame of the supporting structure. The body of each section of the diesel locomotive is conventionally divided into four parts – the control cabin, the body above the hardware chambers, the body above the diesel generator, the body above the refrigerating chamber.

Sections of the diesel locomotive are connected to each other by auto-couplings, and to ensure the transition of locomotive crews from section to section, they are equipped with transitional vestibules.

The control cabins have reliable and multi-layered sound and heat insulation, the front and side windows are glazed with multi-layered glass, there are hatches for airing and ventilation.

The control cabins have a basic configuration and are equipped with a speedometer, safety devices and automatic locomotive signaling of continuous operation, LED lighting lamps, comfortable seats with adjustments.

As a power plant, each section of the diesel locomotive is equipped with a 10-cylinder diesel generator type 10D100 with a total capacity of 2206 kW (3000 hp), consisting of a two-stroke diesel engine 10DN20.7/2×25.4 with gas turbine inflation and a direct current traction generator GP -311B, mounted on one under the diesel frame and interconnected by a semi-rigid coupling.

During 2022-2023 the diesel locomotive underwent a full overhaul in accordance with the current instructions and rules for diesel locomotives of this series, namely:

– complete overhaul of diesel engines of both sections with the replacement of most spare parts and components with new ones, including the connecting rod-piston group (crankshaft bearing liners, pistons, piston rings, cylinder liners), as well as the installation of new assemblies and units, such as exhaust collectors, turbochargers and others;

– complete overhaul of traction electric motors ED118 with replacement of armature windings, main and additional poles, repair of frames, repair of collectors by grinding and roading, replacement of anchor bearings and brush holders. Carrying out work on bench testing of traction motors under load.

– complete overhaul of the main generator and auxiliary electric machines with repair of anchors, poles, replacement of bearings and brush holders;

– complete overhaul of the chassis, namely, repair of trolley frames, brake-lever transmission, brake cylinders, hydraulic shock absorbers, etc. with the replacement of all necessary spare parts and accessories;

– complete identification of wheel pairs with tire turning and revision of axle assemblies of the 2nd volume in accordance with the requirements of the instructions VND32.0.07-001-2001 and CТ-0165;

– complete repair of brake and pneumatic equipment in accordance with the requirements of the instruction СТ-0058;

– external inspection and hydraulic testing of air tanks in accordance with the requirements of the instruction CT-CV-CL-CP-0050;

– replacement of electrical wiring, repair and partial replacement with new electrical wiring equipment, complete repair and restoration of the main and auxiliary control panels;

– complete overhaul with replacement of insulation and internal lining of walls and ceiling made of high-quality corrugated aluminum, moldings, plinths and other decorative elements in the control cabin.

In addition, work was carried out on the overhaul of the roof elements of both sections using new metal structures, overhaul of body strips, decorative strips and linings, production of new exhaust pipes with filter meshes, production of a new set of winter covers for the shaft of the refrigerating device, straightening and overhaul – restoration work on the repair of road sweepers.

In June 2022 was studied the actual technical condition of the load-bearing metal structures of the diesel locomotive (body frames and carts frames) was conducted by specialists of the NDKTI UZ branch with the aim of extending the service life. Based on the results of the inspection, a conclusion was made regarding the extension of the diesel locomotive’s service life by 6 years, it’s until 2028.

All documentation on the extension of the service life of the diesel locomotive “Agreement on the provision of services with a check on the technical condition of the main supporting structures” and “Technical decision on the extension of the service life of the diesel locomotive TR.NDKTI.2022.06.0482” are available.

A new lead-acid starter type 32ТN-550Sа+ U2 produced by the Vladar plant, Kharkiv, was installed on the diesel locomotive

Тhe locomotive passed full rheostat tests at the rheostat station of the locomotive depot named after T. Shevchenko of the Odesa Railway branch of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”. The diesel locomotive was run-in on the approach tracks of the T. Shevchenko locomotive depot of the Odesa Railway branch of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”. It is completely ready for use.

Before carrying out the complete external and internal painting of the locomotive, work was carried out on the complete removal of the old paint coating (up to the metal) by the method of complex sandblasting with the achievement of the overall cleanliness of the body surface at the level between SA1 and SA2 according to the international standard ISO 8501-1.

Complete external and internal painting of the locomotive with high-tech and expensive paint materials of the German brand Lankwitzer Gmbh was carried out in accordance with the selected color palette and painting scheme. Selected transport and signaling shades from the palette of the RAL K7 Lankwitzer catalog, namely: the main color of the diesel locomotive is RAL 5005 – signal blue, which is harmoniously combined with the color of the roof RAL 7042 – transport gray. The tandem of two colors is succinctly emphasized by a strip along the entire body line in the color RAL 1023 – transport yellow. The crew part is painted in practical black color RAL 9004 – signal black. The image is completed by frontal signal overlays, which are pulled into fluorescent light reflective film of the type Oracal 326 Signalrot.

The subject of the agreement concluded between UGLK and Metinvest was the overhaul of the 2TE10U shunting diesel locomotive. This procedure implies the repair or replacement of worn out and damaged parts of the locomotive in order to restore its operational characteristics and extend its service life. As part of the overhaul of the 2TE10U diesel locomotive, the specialists of the Ukrainian Freight Locomotive Company gradually carried out a number of the following technical measures:

Complete disassembly and troubleshooting of the locomotive;
Full inspection of the frame and bogies of the diesel locomotive with the continuation of its service life;
Full re-banding and inspection of all wheelsets, revision of axle systems;
Complete replacement of the sleeve-piston group;
Complete replacement of electrical wiring;
Overhaul of electrical machines (TED, GG, DA, electrical equipment of the locomotive);
Repair of air and water systems of a locomotive;
Complete internal and external painting of the locomotive

All these activities were carried out in a timely manner and in full. Having successfully passed all the necessary post-repair tests, the 2TE10U diesel locomotive was handed over to the customer along with the registration of warranty obligations for a period of 12 months.
